đ How to Use This Solar Calculator
1. đ Get Your Coordinates
To ensure the most accurate data for your solar project, please provide its precise geographic coordinates. Here's how:
- Open Google Maps in your web browser and navigate to the exact location of your solar installation.
- Right-click (or press Ctrl+Click on a Mac) directly on that specific point on the map. This will open a context menu.
- From the menu, normally the top row shows the "latitude and longitude". Clicking this will save the coordinates to your clipboard.
- Return to this application and paste (Ctrl+V or Command+V) the copied coordinates into the designated input field.
2. âī¸ Enter System Details
For the most accurate results, please fill in the following required details about your photovoltaic (PV) installation:
- System Size (kWp): After entering your coordinates, proceed to specify your System Size (kWp), which is the nameplate capacity or total DC power rating of your installation. Alternatively, you can use the âšī¸ provided calculator by entering the wattage per panel and the total number of panels; the tool will automatically compute the system size. Simply press the "Calculate & Fill" button to populate the result directly into the input field.
- Tilt Angle: The inclination of the solar panels measured in degrees from the horizontal (0° is flat, 90° is vertical).
- Azimuth Angle: The orientation of the panels measured in degrees from True North (0°). Typically, 180° is due South in the northern hemisphere.
- Mounting Type: Please select the appropriate mounting method for your solar panels from the dropdown menu. This choice affects how the system interacts with its environment.
- System Losses (%): This field is pre-filled with a default value of 14%, which represents typical system losses. You may adjust this percentage to match your specific design parameters for greater accuracy.
- DC to AC Ratio: This is the ratio between your solar system's DC size (kWp) and your inverter's AC power rating. This information is necessary to calculate potential power clipping, which occurs when DC power exceeds the inverter's capacity after designed losses.
- Inverter Efficiency (%): Enter the nominal efficiency percentage as stated in the datasheet of the inverter you are using.
- Bifacial Panels?: Please select 'Yes' if your solar panels are bifacial and can generate power from both sides, otherwise select 'No'. This affects the overall energy yield calculation.

Click "Calculate Solar Potential" button - the tool will fetch solar irradiance and energy output data to display monthly and annual estimates.
4. đ Reviewing Your Results
Please note that the results displayed are an annual energy production potential (in kWh), calculated from your specific site coordinates and system parameters. Actual energy yield may vary from this projection due to real-world conditions. Key factors that can impact performance include:
- Shading from surrounding objects
- Seasonal accumulation of dust, snow, or debris
- Inverter clipping due to DC-AC ratio
- System-specific design and installation quality
- Natural degradation of components over time
For Conservative Planning:
To support reliable financial modeling and system planning, we recommend using a more conservative estimate of 90% to 92% of the projected annual output. For your convenience, these adjusted kWh values are provided alongside the primary estimate.
